Open the Door to Adult Learning
Consistent with Temple Beth Or’s founding principles nearly a half century ago, our congregation welcomes you. Temple Beth Or means “House of Light.” As a Reform Jewish congregation, developed in the early 1800s in response to the many changes of the modern world, we affirm the central tenets of Judaism – God, Torah and Israel – and accept diversity within our beliefs.
Shabbat Morning Torah Study

Led by Rabbi Ruth Zlotnick, this group enters into a lively and stimulating discussion of the weekly Torah portion. Bagels and coffee are available. Be a participant or just listen. The sessions are not intimidating and no preparation or Hebrew is necessary. Regular attendance is not required - come whenever you can. We think you will be here often!

Adult Choir
Raise your voice in song with our dedicated choir. All you need is a joy of singing, the ability to carry a tune and the desire to work hard at our rehearsals. You do not need to know how to read music. The choir sings at many special occasions in the life of our temple community. Selichot: Making Prayer Meaningful

Our High Holy Day season begins with the profoundly moving experience of Selichot (meaning forgiveness). This year, Rabbi Zlotnick and Cantor Hayut will welcome Rabbi Benjamin Shull and Cantor Mark Biddelman of Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley. Hear directly from them about the challenges and opportunities to make prayer meaningful using music and words and sharing thoughts and prayers. Together they will participate in a panel discussion followed by a contemplative service ushering in this season -- including the singing of Avinu Malkeynu and the changing of the Torah covers to white. No tickets are required and refreshments will be served.

One of our most meaningful Mitzvot is to visit a house of mourning. Our TBO family takes seriously the desire to comfort the bereaved. This year we are offering a special opportunity to learn more about mourning rituals and to better meet the needs of mourners in our community. Melton Adult Learning Classes
Registration is now underway for a new class of this internationally-acclaimed program. Melton students learn the ‘whys’ of everything Jewish exploring Jewish texts - both ancient and modern, and discuss what Judaism means to them in a pluralistic, non-judgmental environment. A new Melton I class, sponsored by UJANNJ, will start this fall at Temple Beth Rishon in Wyckoff. Classes meet once a week for 28 weeks, beginning October 12th.
